چکیده

A metamorphosed lithic clast was discovered in the CM chondrite Grove Mountains 021536, which was collected in the Antarctica by the Chinese Antarctic Research Exploration team. The lithic clast is composed mainly of Fe-rich olivine (Fo62) with minor diopside (Fs9.7–11.1Wo48.3–51.6), plagioclase (An43–46.5), nepheline, merrillite, Al-rich chromite (21.8 wt% Al2O3; 4.43 wt% TiO2), and pentlandite. D O values of olivine in the lithic clast vary from )3.9& to )0.8&. Mineral compositions and oxygen isotopic compositions of olivine suggest that the lithic clast has an exotic source different from the CM chondrite parent body. The clast could be derived from strong thermal metamorphism of pre-existing chondrule that has experienced low-temperature anhydrous alteration. The lithic clast is similar in mineral assemblage and chemistry to a few clasts observed in oxidized CV3 chondrites (Mokoia and Yamato-86009) and might have been derived from the interior of the primitive CV asteroid. The apparent lack of hydration in the lithic clast indicates that the clast accreted into the CM chondrite after hydration of the CM components.

Introduction: Equilibrated lithic clasts in unequilibrated chondrites probably represent thermal metamorphism in the early solar system before or during accretion of chondritic parent bodies. Lithic clasts with equilibrated features are rare in unequilibrated chondrites and their origins are not well-understood [1]. Recently, we observed an unusual lithic clast with thermal-metamorphosed featur...

Clast-rich H-chondrite Impact Melts

Introduction: The H-chondrite parent asteroid provides the second-most abundant type of meteorites that currently reach Earth's surface [1]. These rocks recorded their parent asteroid's collisional history and melted H-chondrites chronicle the most severe cratering events. Samples and Methods: Seven samples of clast-rich impact melt rocks from the La Paz Icefield, Antarctica were analyzed in Pl...

Connecting Lunar Meteorite Dhofar 961 to the South Pole Aitken Basin through Lunar Prospector Gamma-ray Data

Introduction: Lunar meteorite Dhofar 961, a complex, lithic-clast-rich impact breccia [1,2], was called out by [3-6] as a candidate for an origin in the South Pole – Aitken (SPA) Basin region of the Moon (the SPA Terrane) on the basis of its relatively mafic, but nonmare lithologic and major-element chemical composition. It also has an incompatible-element signature that differs from the KREEP-...

Evidence from polymict ureilite meteorites for a disrupted and re-accreted single ureilite parent asteroid gardened by several distinct impactors

Ureilites are ultramafic achondrites that exhibit heterogeneity in mg# and oxygen isotope ratios between different meteorites. Polymict ureilites represent near-surface material of the ureilite parent asteroid(s). Electron microprobe analyses of >500 olivine and pyroxene clasts in several polymict ureilites reveal a statistically identical range of compositions to that shown by unbrecciated ure...

Ar-ar Impact Ages of Shocked Ll Chondrites

Introduction: Due to the relatively low closure temperature of feldspar, Ar-Ar ages of shocked meteorites typically record the age of an impact, not the formation age. Ar-Ar dating of lunar rocks has shown an increase in the impact rate around 3.9Ga [1], and many eucrites [2] and H chondrites [3] give similar ages, but with a larger spread than in the lunar case. Although only a small number of...
